UNESCO in Belarus

Belarus became a member of UNESCO in 1954 and for many years was supported by this international unesco_belarus.jpgorganization. With the help of UNESCO in Belarus is implementing a number of interesting projects in education, science, information, communication and, of course, culture.

In October 1988 Belarus joined the Convention about the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, adopted by UNESCO in 1972 and today there are 4 objects in the territory of Belarus which are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The first one  was included into the list in 1992. It was the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha" (natural heritage) - a unique forest reserve in Europe, protected since XIV century.

In 2000 into the World Heritage List of UNESCO was included the early XVI century castle complex "Mir".  Architecture of the castle combines Gothic, Baroque and Renaissance, what makes him one of the most beautiful castles in Europe.

Two other object joined UNESCO World Cultural Heritage in 2005. This is the "Architecture and cultural complex of the Radziwill Family at Nesvizh" and the Struve Geodetic Arc.
