Polotsk, is the oldest city in Belarus (the first mention is at 862). Today, the city is called the city of museums, here's ten of them. For a small town its a lot.

 The city will meet you with amazing views of the Western Dvina and like a white stone in the waves there is st. Sophia Church. The church is oldest and greatest monumental structure in Belarus (XI century). It is the symbol of independence and power of Polotsk, the Orthodox Kiev and Nowvogrodu of that time. Today it is not only a museum but also a concert hall, where you can hear the sounds of the majestic organs.

Today there is a monastery foundated at 1125) by Euphrosyne of Polatsk. Church of theTransfiguration (XII century) and the monastery are rare Slavic monuments of architecture and painting. There are also the relics of St.Euphrosyne of Polatsk. In the main church of the monastery - St. Cross Church there is a gold cross, made in 1161 at the request ofEuphrosyne of Polatsk by craftsman Lazar Bogsha.

There are also other sightseings in Polotsk: The hight and low shaft of Ivan the Terrible castle, the monastery complex of Revelation, the house of Peter I, the Council building, the residence of the governor, Jesuit College.
